Week 1: Our Host Family Rocks

Welcome to the Post where I put up a million selfies of me and Kelly!:)

So I mentioned before that The Kiendlhofer's oldest son Adrian,
is in a Band that practices in the basement sometimes.
Well this week we got to go hear them play!
So sick:)

Out of all the host families, ours is totally the most hip.
They like to run and hike and are totally hilarious,
plus Sabine and Alois have this great van
that they drive the band around in to gigs:)

But before we really get started, here is a snapchat I took of Kelly
when the make-up comes off,
you don't want to see what's underneath...
IT'S THE HAG OF THE BOG!!
Hahaha. Our favorite thing to call each other now:)

Kelly must have gotten a feel for all that Rock,
because now she wants to buy everything in black leather.
Like this slinky dress.

And this sheik Jacket! (She only ended up with the Jacket, ha:)

The band played in a local pub!
See? You can see the word local on the wall behind them.

Here we are with Sabine and Alois! They are so awesome:)

Kelly and I posed with the Band

This was our favorite part.
So Kelly and I were sitting around and we didn't quite fit in,
because we didn't have a beer cup like everyone else.
It was a little embarrassing, but Alois saved the day!
He brought us some mugs of apple juice!:)
And they even had sparkling water so there was a little foam on the top!
They looked just like beer and we fit right in:)
Here is us posing with our applejuice!:)

Also this week Kelly and I went on a HUUUUGE run
to try and stave off some of the euro-choco-fat gain,
And there was this perfect trail right along a small creek that went up below the main road,
And we ran for two hours and it felt amazing!
Our feet were still swollen from so much walking,
and somehow running it out helped.
It was a super great way to see the backroads of Vienna!

In our Music Civ class we learned a bit about the Habsburg Empire,
Well, we learned other stuff too but somehow this is what stuck,
All of the Royal family had a pretty huge underbite,
and we saw some paintings and statues of them that just looked RIDICULOUS.

I thought of this guy.
Ok they weren't as bad as all that.

It became a joke between the group such that we asked the question,
"Would you rather be your own little self as a Peasant during the Habsburg Empire,
or a Habsburg Princess and have all of these gorgeous Palaces, but also have the Habsburg jaw?"
Everyone chose to be a peasant.
Here are Kelly and I demonstrating the Habsburg jaw:)

We also had dinner with our family this week!
It was a blast, there was nothing to be nervous about:)
They served a big assortment of cooked vegetables that were each DEE-LISH-US
Kelly and I LOVE vegetables.
Like for real.
So we were super thrilled, and we met Klaus, Alois and Sabine's son
who is Kelly's age and Kelly has a big crush on him:)
Jk but he is darling--I feel like I could be his EFY counselor!

We didn't speak German, because the family knows a LOT more English than we know German,
and we weren't sure if it was going to be offensive for us to slaughter their language, ha!
So after we ate we just asked what the German words were for everything,
that was super fun and when we spoke a little to them in German,
Alois said I had hardly any accent!
Ya hear that Krissy?
All our years of imitating German accents is paying off!!!:)

I learned some interesting stuff about Austrians at dinner.
Klaus is working for nine months doing his time in civil service,
something that is required for all Austrians,
so he is an EMT basically, riding around in the Ambulance.
It's not what he wants to do for a job, but it's better he says than going in the Army!
I agree!
I had to work hard not to talk about gross medical stuff at the table though, haha:)
I wanted to jump right in to some gross stories he might relate to,
but I held my tongue and was a polite guest:)

So that was part of week one!
More updates to come, thanks for checking in!
